On the Select Objects step, you have two strategies for handling your records:
-
Migrate them to the target CRM
-
Match (or map) them between the source and target CRMs
You can use both strategies at the same time if needed.
For Users, matching is enabled by default—but you can change this if your migration requires a different approach.
For other objects (like Organizations, Files, Activities. etc.), the default "Migration" strategy is pre-set.
Which strategy should you choose?
-
Migration is ideal when you're moving data to a new or empty portal, or when you are confident there's no overlap between the source and target data.
-
Matching is the better choice when your destination CRM already contains data, and you want to prevent duplicate Contacts or Companies. The common case is merging two companies' databases, or importing a part of data by integration or sync with another CRM.
If you select Matching for a specific object, those records will be matched against existing records in the target CRM. By default, they won’t be updated, but their associated activities and relationships will migrate.
Note: If you require a custom approach for matched records—such as enriching target records with properties from the source (set empty strategy), or overwriting existing target records—please contact the SyncMatters team. We're happy to assist!
