When planning to migrate Notes to Salesforce, it's important to understand that the platform supports two different note objects:
- Notes (You can see them as Notes & Attachments section in the UI)
- Content Notes (also known as Enhanced Notes).
When you migrate Notes to any of the objects above, make sure that you have it enabled in Salesforce. Follow the directions here.
Even after enabling Notes, they might not be visible in your UI if this section is not added to your record layout.
Making Notes Visible in Salesforce Layouts
To display Notes (or Notes & Attachments) on your record pages:
-
Go to Setup.
-
Open the Object Manager.
-
Select the object you’re migrating Notes to (e.g., Contact, Opportunity).
-
In the left panel, click on Page Layouts.
-
Choose the relevant layout and click Edit.
-
In the layout editor:
-
Drag Notes & Attachments from the Related Lists section into the layout, if not already present.
-
For Enhanced Notes, make sure the Notes related list is also added.
-
Once added, users will be able to view and interact with notes directly from the associated records.
